Train to Where
My name is George. I live in Alabama, although I’m never really there. I have been told my father’s name is Frank, but I’ve never actually met him. My mommy tells me she let me go on this train so I can someday meet him, but it will be a very long time after I arrive at the first train stop. It feels like I’ve already been on here for a trillion years, but at least I made my new best friend on this train. Her name is Anna. She cheers me up when I get confused and sad. I like Anna.
When I get bored of sitting around on this long train ride, I like to think about my mommy. I miss her cupcakes and all, so why did she have to send me away on this train? Sometimes she tells me that I’m too much for her to handle, and she doesn’t want me anymore. That hurts, but I’m pretty sure she is kidding. She told me that this train ride would only last two hours. It has been two days so far. Maybe the man driving the train got lost. Mommy says this train is headed towards a place full of new friends! That sounds like a lot of fun. She said I will get to have sleepovers with people my age every single night! I don’t know why she decided to be so nice to me by letting me meet new friends, and she never really said what train I need to get on to get back home. I guess she forgot to tell me that part, but I’m sure she’ll call very soon.
Guess what- I finally got off the train, and my best friend Anna is getting off with me! She says we won’t ever see our parents again. That’s strange. I’m sure my mommy will come pick me up soon. This place is weird; I wonder how long I will be here. What does “orphanage” mean? That’s the name of the place with all the new friends. Maybe it’s a super-secret club! There are so many people for me to hang out with! This is going to be great!
Thank you so much mommy. I love you.

This was really well written Mackenzie!!! I think the author's purpose was to show the naive nature of children. I was engaged the entire time. The way you kept the reader guessing as to where George was headed was a great literary technique. Really great job. I really enjoyed. :)

I think that your purpose was that children don't have the same thought process as an adult and that they will always find the best in something.

This really shows the different perspectives of the world. They differ a ton through age. Very well written.

This is a very sad story. I feel like kids always see things in a positive way, they never become hopeless. Although Anna was actually abandoned by her mother, she always believes her mother will come and pick her up.
