Purpose

Purpose

By: Matthew Fabiszak

Purpose. What is my purpose? It’s a question that most people ask themselves but have a hard time finding the answer to. When I was young, I thought my purpose was to be someone to change the world, I wanted to be somebody who everyone would know by name. That was my goal.

As I got older I kept chasing after my dream. I went to a great high school and went through it with astounding grades. I got into my dream college and succeeded there too. I was working towards my degree in medicine and everything was looking up for me. I was going to be able to save people and make a difference, but one day everything changed. My parents had gotten in a terrible car accident and neither survived, I was devastated. They had done so much for me but there was nothing I could do for them. That day is when everything changed, that day is when I realized ephemeral and disheartening life really is. There was nobody with which to share my feelings and regrets. I fell into a deep depression. I never got my degree and never got to accomplish my dreams. I began to ask myself, what is my purpose?

From then on, I struggled in life. I had to work manual labor because nobody else would hire me. I struggled to make ends meet and feed myself, let alone pay off my tiny apartment. I was losing the will to go on. I got let go from my job and was evicted from my apartment, I truly had nothing left. I had nowhere to go and nothing to help keep me alive. I became a beggar and slept on the cold concrete every night. In time I became malnourished and contracted a deadly disease.  As I lay there on the concrete on my final day on this Earth I finally realized my purpose. It was to be put onto this Earth and be taken off of it.

This is extremely well written. I think the purpose of this story was to show how somebody's life can change for the worst in a split second.

This is beautifully written. Wow. The purpose to me was that life can change within an instant. It's a forewarning to expect the unexpected. The last sentence was an incredibly impactful closer. Great job.

I think the author's purpose in writing this was to convey that one day/event can completely change the course of your life.
