Love Has No Color

“I don’t care what people say, you are and always will be my daughter” Margret whispered to her infant daughter. After being the nanny for a year, Margret felt she was the only one who could take of the baby after her parents were killed in a horrific car accident. Margret new that this would make hers and the baby’s lives difficult, but she never expected to be hated.

“Since when can those people take our children for their own?” whispered one man to another as the passed her on the street. Margret lived in a very small town in Missouri, with a population of 311. Word quickly spread of a black woman raising a white child as her own. She couldn’t go to the grocery store without being berated and feeling a thousand eyes on her.

Margret would think back to the days when she was just a nanny. “I was raising this baby when her parents were alive, why is it different now that her parents are dead?” she quietly asked herself as she held her. Margret feared the days when Susan learned to talk, for she was afraid of the questions she would ask. “Why is you skin a different color? Why did you raise me and give me this horrible life? Why do people hate me?”

Margret feared a lot of things, but she didn’t let them overcome her. She knew she was the only one who could take of this baby, and she was the only one her loved her. Margret loved Susan with her entire heart and knew that this love would conquer the challenges they faced together. People never did accept her as the mother of Susan. They chose to think of her as a mere baby feeding machine and not a mother. These people never saw the tender side of her love, they never saw that the color of one’s skin has no impact on how they could raise a child. She started walking home, and kissed the child’s head ever so gently.

I think its about how love doesn't care what people think it just happens

This was great Alex. I really really enjoyed it. I think your purpose/message was to demonstrate how love can conquer hatred through the eyes of a mother. The conflict of racial judgement was a great way to showcase just how long Margaret's love is. Very well written! :)

I really enjoyed this. Love comes in all forms, shapes and sizes. Love is not to be judged but others but admired.

To me this story is showing how whites would think less of black people and never even consider them to accomplish and do anything besides follow their master's command. It shows the individuality of the character and how she doesn't care what others think, she cares for the baby so she will raise it regardless of what others say
